We bought a house!

We've been neglecting the blog a bit in the last few months--busy settling in and looking for houses. We closed on a house yesterday! It's a 1970s house on a big (1.6 acres!) tree-filled lot, about 3 miles from my office. We love the neighborhood--it's the kind where trees grow over the street. We didn't totally realize how nice it was when we put in our offer because the trees were still missing their leaves back then.

The house is in good shape--one owner, who is a very meticulous engineer. Our lawyer (Newark Mayor Vance Funk III, no kidding...guess what his son's name is) lived in the neighborhood when the house was being built. He said that the owner kept a close eye on the construction and would go in at night and rip out any lumber that was below his standards...good to know. The night before we settled, the owner was still trying to fix things so everything was just right--the perfect 70s house (blue toilet and all). Here are some pictures...we'll try to post more soon. Right now we're trying to decide how much remodeling we want to do before moving in, or if we should just go with it and buy retro "mid century modern" furniture.

Congratulations! That looks like a great place with lots of possibilities, and a nice big yard. The blue toilet is rather...colorful. :)

Nice! I love the layout, and having that much land is fantastic. Enjoy it!
